With the development of trade, buyers and consumers continue to improve the safety and quality requirements of products. The Malaysian government stipulates that if products are shipped regularly to Malaysia, suppliers need to apply for product certification. In 1998, Malaysia promulgated the new Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which regulates in detail the conditions of access to telecommunications services and communications markets in Malaysia.
At the same time, the new telecommunications regulatory agency, the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission(CMC), was also born.
According to the "Communications and Multimedia Act", the placing of communications equipment on the market requires an application to the CMC or a CMC designated certification body for type certification and equipment certification certificates and certification marks.
Communication Equipment Type Certification is responsible for specific certification matters by the Communications Development Section(CETS) under the jurisdiction of SIRIM.
SIRIM is the only certification authority in Malaysia. Electronic products entering Malaysia need to apply for SIRIM certification. In principle, the applicant should be a local institution in Malaysia. The application and management of SIRIM certification is specifically responsible for SIRIM QAS International, which issues SIRIM certificates.
1. Content covered by accreditation
Electrical safety;
Electromagnetic compatibility, frequency below 30 kHz, between 26 kHz and 1300 MHz, 1000 MHz above;
The coordination of telecommunications networks includes public exchange networks, cellular telephone networks, data communication networks, and communication software;
Wireless communications, frequency below 30 kHz, between 26 kHz and 1300 MHz, 1000 MHz above;
Optical communications;
Cable and accessories.
2. Content of accreditation
The type of certification content is situation report assessment, laboratory testing, on-site testing, if the equipment is only used for exhibitors, etc.. It can apply to the CMC of the Communications and Multimedia Committee and obtain a special certification directly through the assessment of the written report.
Recently, SIRIM revised some of the terms of its certification process. The main changes are as follows:
1. SIRIM certificates must now be reviewed once a year and are valid for a period of 5 years;
2. Corresponding to Article 1 is that the submission of test reports is now only accepted by qualified laboratories whose issuance date has not exceeded five years;
Equipment approved by SIRIM for more than 5 years, if it is still necessary to sell on the Malaysian market, must be sent back to the laboratory for testing and submit SIRIM application again. The original SIRIM certificate will be expired;
In the Malaysian SIRIM certification application process, product testing can be completed through the laboratory, or it can be converted to SIRIM approval by submitting CB reports and certificates. In this case, it is generally not necessary to submit the sample test again. However, SIRIM sometimes requires customers to send samples to check the consistency of the identified samples and submitted samples on the original report.
3. SIRIM Certification Mark:
After the type certification is passed, the device manufacturer can obtain a certification certificate issued by SIRIM and attach the SIRIM certification logo to the communication device.
