Introduction to UL Certification in the United States
UL is mainly engaged in product safety certification and business safety certification operations. Its purpose is to provide the market with goods with a fairly safe standard and contribute to ensuring personal health and property safety. As far as product safety certification is an effective means to eliminate technical barriers to international trade, UL also plays an active role in promoting the development of international trade. UL was founded in 1894. In the initial stage, UL mainly relied on the fire insurance department to provide funds to maintain the operation. It was not until 1916 that UL was completely independent. After nearly a hundred years of development, UL has become a world-renowned certification body. It has a set of strict organizational management systems, standard development and product certification procedures. UL is managed by a board of directors composed of safety experts, government officials, consumers, education, utilities, insurance, and standards departments. Daily work is handled by the president and vice president. UL has five laboratories in the United States and is headquartered in Northbrook, North of Chicago. At the same time, UL has set up corresponding laboratories in Taiwan and Hong Kong. In the United States, UL is a symbol of safety signs for consumers. Globally, UL is one of the manufacturers 'trusted qualified assessment providers. The UL logo is usually marked on the product and/or product packaging to indicate that the product has passed UL certification and meets safety standards.

UL Certification Benefits
1, the entire United States market is very focused on product safety; When consumers and purchasing units purchase products, they will choose products with UL certification marks.
UL has a history of more than 100 years. The image of safety is deeply rooted in consumers and the government. If you do not directly sell products to consumers, middle traders will also require that the products have UL-certified marks to make the products sell well.
American consumers and buyers are more confident in the company's products.
4, the U.S. federal, state, county, and municipal governments have a total of more than 40,000 administrative districts, all of which recognize the UL-certified logo.
UL-certified Product Services
1. LISTED:[ 1] UL certification generally applies only to complete products and various devices and devices that are replaced or installed by qualified personnel on the spot. It belongs to various products of the UL listing service, including household appliances. Medical equipment, computers, commercial equipment and various electrical products that function in buildings. Such as distribution systems, fuses, wires, switches and other electrical components. UL listed products can usually be marked with UL's listing logo and the usage of the listing logo on each product.
2. Accreditation: Accreditation services are an item in the ULL service. The products identified can only be used as components, raw materials on UL listings, ratings, or other approved products. Approved products are not structurally complete, or there are certain restrictions on their use to ensure that they achieve the desired safety performance. In most cases, the tracking service for approved products falls into category R. Approved products belonging to Class L include electronic wire(AVLV2), processing wire(ZKLU2), wire beam(ZPFW2), aluminum wire(DVVR2), and metal flexible tube(DXUZ2). Accredited product requirements are marked with accredit.
3. Classification: The grading service only evaluates the specific hazards of the product, or evaluates products that implement other standards than the UL standard(including internationally recognized standards such as IEC and ISO standards). In general, most graded products are not products used by consumers, but products used in industry or business.
The classification mark in the UL logo indicates that the product has certain restrictions and scope when it is identified by UL. For example, for chemicals such as solvents used in industry, only the range of fires that may occur when they reach the ignition point temperature is evaluated. Some products have the same classification service as listed services, but generally only one or more aspects of the product are evaluated. For example, in the United States, equipment such as medical X-ray diagnostic machines are subject to national compliance with United States laws and regulations on radiation emission and beam accuracy. However, because UL only uses X-rays as a graded product, only its mechanical properties, electrical properties, and other non-radiation properties are evaluated.
4. Multiple listing, multiple accreditation or multiple rating services: When a UL applicant obtains the above listing, accreditation or rating services, his or her product is produced on behalf of another company to meet the needs of sales and can apply for multiple listings, Multiple approval or multiple rating services, in which case the listed, approved or graded manufacturer is allowed to use the name of another company in the product list, except for the company code, product code or other features that ULC considers acceptable, Must be consistent with the original listed, approved or graded product.
5. "AL" listing, accreditation or classification services: If an UL applicant does not want to obtain listing, accreditation or classification services in the name of his own company, he can apply for listing, accreditation or classification in the name of another firm(usually a retailer or wholesaler). That is, "AL" is listed, approved or graded. Its difference from multiple listings, multiple endorsements or multiple rating services is that its petitioner is not a listed person.
6. System Certification Service: As a member of the International Accreditation Committee, UL is widely involved in ISO9000 quality system certification, ISO14000 environmental protection certification, QS 9000 automotive industry quality system certification, and AS 9000 aircraft industry quality system certification services. A total of 116 factories in the country have obtained UL system certification; Among them, 21 are ISO9001 certification, 85 are ISO9002 certification, 1 is ISO14001 certification, and 9 are QS 9000 certification.
7. Other UL services: certification services, inspection services, fact finding services, research services, etc..

The test report will detail the test situation, the indicators achieved by the sample, the product structure, and the safety Mark suitable for the use of the product. A description of the product and a guidance note for the UL regional inspector are included in the tracking service details. A copy of the test report is sent to the applicant company, and a copy of the follow-up service details is sent to each production plant.
6. The applicant is authorized to use the UL logo to contact the production plant in China for the first factory inspection(Inactive Product Engineering. IPI), the inspectors inspect the storage of your products and their spare parts in the production line and in the warehouse to confirm that the product structure and parts are consistent with the tracking service rules. If required in the rules, the regional inspectors will also conduct sighting experiments. When the results meet the requirements, The applicant is authorized to use the UL logo. Following IPI, inspectors will visit the factory from time to time to inspect the product structure and conduct sighting experiments. The frequency of inspection is determined by the type of product and production volume. Most types of products are inspected at least four times a year. The inspector's inspection is to ensure that the product continues to comply with the UL requirements. Before you plan to change the product structure or components, please inform UL. For minor changes, there is no need to repeat any experiments. UL can quickly modify the tracking service details. Make this change acceptable to inspectors. When UL believes that changes in the product affect its safety performance, it is necessary to apply for the company to resubmit the sample for necessary testing.
7. If the product test results do not meet the UL standard, UL will notify the applicant that there are problems. After the applicant improves the product design, he can resubmit the product. You should tell the UL engineer what improvements the product has made. In order for it to decide that the above is the step of applying for UL certification.
